The healthcare industry has always recognized the importance of prevention. After all, as the famous adage goes, “Prevention is better than cure.” However, in the past, healthcare has largely been a reactive field, with physicians and clinicians treating patients after they have already become ill. But with the advent of Industry 4.0, we now have the technology to shift towards a more proactive approach to healthcare, and this is where Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are playing a crucial role.

At Medeva, we believe that prevention is the key to better healthcare outcomes. That’s why we have developed a Health Electronic Record (EHR) system that is proactive rather than reactive. Our EHR is equipped with predictive analysis capabilities using Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence, which enable us to identify potential health risks in patients and send early warnings to clinicians.

To achieve this, we have deployed a series of machine learning and deep learning techniques that generate custom risk scores based on various factors such as demographics, vitals, presenting complaints, social and behavioural history. Etc. We have also integrated existing risk score systems like Flamingo score system to ensure comprehensive coverage. These risk scores are then used to identify patients who are at risk of developing certain health conditions, enabling clinicians to take proactive measures to prevent the onset of illness.

Let’s consider an example to better understand how our system works. Doctors were seeing many patients who had poor glycemic control over time, even though the doctor did not expect this to happen. To proactively identify and engage with these patients, we developed a predictive model that alerts the doctor at the time of consultation with a risk score indicating the patient’s likelihood of not maintaining glycemic control over the next three months. Armed with this information, the doctor can then plan care pathways, communication, and interventions with the patient proactively, potentially preventing the onset of complications related to poor glycemic control.

In conclusion, the healthcare industry is undergoing a transformational change, and the shift towards proactive healthcare is the future. With the latest advancements in AI and ML, we now have the tools to identify potential health risks in patients and take proactive measures to prevent the onset of illness. At Medeva, we are committed to harnessing the power of AI and ML to develop proactive solutions that improve healthcare outcomes and ultimately, lead to healthier communities.
